Wadi Bani Khalid is one of the absolute must see’s in Oman. Most travelers go there to have a lazy day in the touristic part of the canyon but for those seeking more adventures : Here is a post you might like!
Wadi Bani Khalid (canyon) is the only one accessible by car and suitable for families with small children (strollers), elderly or people who want facilities on site (restaurant, bathroom,…).
Besides the touristic area, Wadi Bani Khalid has much more to offer to the more adventurous travelers : hiking, canyoning, climbing, speleology, you name it.
During my first visit in Oman, I joined a group and we went canyoning down one section of the canyon. I had never done any canyoning before so I was both worried and excited to try it. It was really fun! Best memories! I would recommend anyone to try it. If I have done it…Trust me. Everyone can do it! 🙂
I have heard that there are natural caves to explore too. I shall try to go there on a next adventure. If anyone has been there, I would love to hear how it went and if it is worth it.
- Avoid weekends (Friday/Saturday). The place can get really crowded.
- Dress code : even though you will see many Westerner tourists there, you should keep in mind that locals visit this place too. Women should wear a covering swimming-suit or put on a wide tee-shirt on their bikini.
- Bring some shoes you can walk/swim with in the water. Better protect your feet from sharp rocks and not ruin the rest of your vacation
- Contact an agency. Better go with en experienced guide and be on the safe side.
